Now I am actually a published author

It's been a strange couple of weeks since the publication of my book. I purposely organised a number of events for the launch day so that it did not pass by as a 'normal' day. I am sure every new author will agree with me when I say it's a bit of damp squib! You build yourself up for this momentus day and, yes nothing new happens!

BUT, as with everything I seem to do in my life now, I made it happen. I wasn't going to let the day pass me by. I'd worked too hard, literally shed lots of tears and was going to celebrate the day...working, doing what I love to do.

Phil and Ros Caplan own Philip Howards Books Limited on Street Lane in Leeds. It is a quaint treasure trove filled with books from a wide range of genre. My particular favourites are of course to do with rugby league, expecially such legends as Eddie Waring! I presented Ros with a personal copy and received a warm welcome as anyone does when they visit the shop.Trust me if you love books and browsing, this is the place to be.

In the afternoon I had the great pleasure of delivering a signed book to my very first competition winner at the Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate.

Coincidentally the hotel hosts the annual Theakston's Old Peculiar Crime Writing Festival - this year 17 -20 July 2014.


 
Gemma Risebero is the Sales Manager of this stunningly beautiful hotel, certainly a place Mark and Annie may visit in the sequel - watch this space!

I have been overwhelmed with the positive responses I have had. Thank you for all those who have taken the time to let me know how much you have enjoyed the book - it really does mean alot. It also means I have to crack on with the sequel now. For those asking, I have thirteen chapters completed. So watch this space....

Only last week I learned the extent some people will go to, to twist your words around. In desperation to start the New Year eradicating all the bad, I enlisted the help of a techy friend and it is handy having an honours degree in computing along with a curious mind. In the space of ten minutes we found multiple accounts set up by one person. It wasn’t hard even without the technology the authorities have. Those accounts have now been blocked but more will turn up, we know they will. There is nothing more I can do because I now have evidence to show that whatever I write my words are twisted. What I don’t understand is why they read my stuff. It would be like me reading all the articles by Nigel Farage! It would NEVER happen EVER, trust me. Who said, "Size doesn't matter!!"

I was disappointed to learn my book couldn't be judged in the Theakston's Old Peculiar Crime Novel of the Year awards because of it's size. Yes, whoever said size doesn't matter was wrong, clearly it does. In truth, the disappointment only lasted a couple of minutes. Come on, I was absolutely flattered and honoured to have even been nominated for such a prestigious award for my DEBUT novel. The thought that professionals in the literary world considered my work worthy of a nomination fills me with overwhelming pride and gives me goose bumps every time I think of it. The Theakston's Old Peculiar Crime Festival is being held at the Old Swan Hotel in Harrogate and features incredible writers such as Ann Cleeves, Robert Galbraith aka J K Rowling, Lynda LaPlante, John Harvey and Val McDermid to name but a few. Menieres Madness

I live with pain every day. Some days it’s a dull ache other days it feels like my ears are going to explode. The buzzing drives me to distraction especially when trying to listen to people in crowded places. BUT the worst part of this unpredictable illness is the frustration of not being able to do the things you want or need to do. Monday started off with me writing over 10,000 words in one day. I was so pleased with myself. I had a plan for the week after spending the weekend nursing Lucas through yet another stomach bug caught at school. The amount of letters I get home from school telling me I’ not allowed to send my child to school until at least 48 hours after any sickness yet someone must be sending their child in because my cops for it every time! Anyway I should know by now that planning a week is futile. Monday night I started to feel ill and by Tuesday morning the floors were moving.
